Lately I have been overwhelmed with problems and situations that are out of my control. (Which frustrate me more than anything!) I look back over the last two months and I’m speechless. We have been attacked right and left from satan in every direction. It has varied from flat tires to sickness, surgeries and everything in between. And I don’t think I am alone, a quick glance at my Facebook news feed will confirm it.
Psalm 55:1-2 says this: “Listen to my prayer, O God. Do not ignore my cry for help! Please listen and answer me, for I am overwhelmed by my troubles.”
My heart has been heavy and burdened for my family, my friends, and for things that are going on within me personally. But God has been reminding me almost on a daily basis that He is still God, He is sovereign and still sitting on His throne. Nothing is impossible or too big for Him! Verse 16 says, “But I will call on God, and the LORD will rescue me.”
As much as I struggle with not being in control of my problems, I know that if I leave them in God hands, He will take care of them. My husband reminded me of this just the other day. And even though I told him at the time that I didn’t want to “hear a sermon”, I knew he was speaking the truth to me and I did need to hear it.
Sometimes it is too easy to just wallow in your self pity and sadness. Back in high school, I came up with a quote that used to drive Jacob insane. He hated it, and it says, “What’s wrong with denial? Its comfy there.” And it’s sad but so true. We can get comfy in our denial, in our self pity, in our depression because sometimes it’s too hard to deal with what we are going through to move past it. We do not want to deal with our problems. We don’t want to give over control of our situations. But if we would realize that once we hand over the situation to the only one who is able to handle them, He will then give us the strength and joy to get through them.
Verse 22 says. “Give your burdens to the LORD, and he will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall.”
I want you all to know that I’m praying for you daily and I ask that you pray for me and my family as well. Remember to give God your burdens, don’t carry them all alone. He can take them and do a much job at fixing them then we could ever dream of!
Hugs,
Erin
