Hello everyone!
I just got back from a Writing Retreat, so today is the perfect time for another Wisdom Wednesday. Today we have author Deborah Sprinkle joining us.
Welcome Deborah!
Name: Deborah Sprinkle
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Publisher: Scrivenings Press
Latest Novel: Silence Can Be Deadly
Writing Tip:
There are so many that come to mind, but if I have to choose just one thing to emphasize, it would be to bait your hook with an irresistible first line and paragraph. By that I mean set the hook with your very first words or your readers will spit it out.
I think this is my favorite writing tip because crafting a truly great first line takes effort and skill. Most writers I know will rework the opening line and paragraph over and over trying to get it just right.
And when they do, it’s a thing of beauty.
Writing Tip for New Writers:
My advice for new writers is this:
- Learn the craft.
- Be humble but persistent.
- Grow a thick skin.
- Relationships are important. Give as much as you take.
Forced from the career he loved and into driving a taxi, Peter Grace had grown accustomed to his simple life. Until one night when a suspicious fare and a traffic jam blew it all apart, and he was on the run again. Only this time it wasn’t a matter of changing occupations but of life and death.
He needed help and he knew where to find it. His old friend Rafe in Pleasant Valley. What he didn’t count on was finding not only the help he needed but a community of new friends and the love of his life. Zoe Poole.
The story of Captain Nate Zuberi and his wife Madison continues as they too risk their lives to help Peter. Along with Peter, Rafe, and Zoe, they strive to catch an assassin.
But can the group of friends find the killer before anyone else gets hurt?
When Deborah Sprinkle retired from teaching chemistry, she wanted to do three things—one of which was to write a mystery novel.
After many years of honing her craft, Deborah realized her dream. Deadly Guardian debuted in May, 2019. Deborah’s second book in the series, Death of an Imposter, was published November 24th, 2020. And the third is under contract for November of 2021. She continues to win awards for her short stories, articles, flash fiction, and novels.
Deborah lives in Memphis with her greatest fan, her husband of 49+ years, and continues to be an ordinary woman serving an extraordinary God.
