Hey everyone, I hope you all have had a great Holiday weekend! (And yes, I realize it is now Wednesday). I had a great time with my family. We had 3 days of swimming, food and of course fireworks. We also helped our church fill balloons and hand out candy in the parade. Way fun.
Now before I even blinked its Wednesday and I’m having a hard time focusing and getting back to my routine. But after a couple of days of nothing going like I planned, I have to stop and ask, am I’m so busy with routine that I forget to stop and enjoy my day?
At first my plan was to write our devotional tomorrow on Chapter 39, but as I’m re-reading the chapter verse 4-5 jumps out at me:
“Show me O Lord, my life’s end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting is my life. You have made my days a mere handbreadth; the span of my years is a nothing before you. Each man’s life is but a breath.”
I’ve read this before and of course I have heard it before but now as I’m sitting annoyed with myself that I didn’t get my list of “to do’s,” accomplished (and belive me, this list just keeps growing!) I’m reminded that even though my list of tasks may be important, and yes, as much as I enjoy making lists it’s so easy to caught up in scheduling my day that I leave no time for actually living my day.
We don’t know how long we have here on earth. Our verse today says that our lives are like a breath. That’s why it is so important to keep our priorities in line. At the end of the day, is it really that big of deal if they house isn’t as clean as I would like, (and believe me with a 2-year-old it is impossible to stay clean!) the laundry overflowing, or my list a little longer than I wanted?
Not really. What matters more to me is that my kids are happy, I got be with my family, maybe spend some time talking to a friend that may be hurting and try to show Jesus to everyone I meet. We just started a great new series at church called, “Minute to Win It.” We are talking about what happens when people share their story about what Jesus has done in their life. One of my favorite quotes is from St. Francis of Assisi who says: “Preach the Gospel at all times and when necessary use words.” I love this! Our actions speak so much louder than our words.
I want to leave you with one question: If our time is like a breath, then what are you going to do with your time?
Hugs,
Erin
