One late night on the way home from Church, Jacob told Daniel to turn off his DS. I was preparing myself for an argument, (Daniel loves his video games) but I was shocked when he agreed, but didn’t think anything else about it. Jacob and I continued our conversation. Bella was asleep in her car seat, and Daniel was quiet in the backseat of the van. When we were close to our house, Jacob looked in the review mirror and saw Daniel playing his DS. He asked him if he was playing, and Daniel quietly said yes. We didn’t know he was because he turned the sound off so we couldn’t hear it! I kind of secretly chuckled to myself. Needless to say Daniel was grounded from video games for the next day. When Daniel came home from school the next day he asked if he could play a game and I said yes. I completely forgot about him being grounded! I suppose Daniel felt guilty, or maybe he was just seeing if I would remember, but he said, “Mom, I’m grounded! I can’t play.”
When we ask God for forgiveness of our sins, He forgets them! And unlike us moms and dads that may forget and then remember later, He doesn’t remember them. What do we get from God instead of what we deserve? We get mercy! That has been laid heavily on my heart lately. We get mercy, and grace. We don’t deserve it, but He gives it to us.
What do you think we should do then? Keep our mercy and grace to ourselves? Hold on to it and keep it for ourselves? Say “mine, mine, mine!” Of course not! But that’s what we are saying when we see someone that is struggling, that is hurting, that needs God’s mercy and grace, and we keep quiet. We don’t reach out and offer this to them. We are saying that there’s not enough, we hold onto our mercy. God did not give us this gift to keep it for ourselves.
Our text today is Psalm 25 verse 7: “Do not remember the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions; According to Your mercy remember me, For Your goodness’ sake, O Lord.” Psalm 103 12-13 says: “For as the heavens are high above the earth, So great is His mercy toward those who fear Him; As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us.”
So what are you going to do with your mercy and grace? I challenge you this week, ask God to put someone in your life that is hurting, that needs Him. And when He does, don’t ignore it, don’t ignore that person. Go out of your comfort zone and offer them a little mercy, a little grace. Lend a hand and comfort them, pray for them, encourage them. Tell them you love them but also that God loves them, He only wants the best for them. That He is waiting with open arms. To give them hope. And believe me, there are so many people in this world looking for hope, for peace, something to make them feel happy and whole. You have the answer. Share it. You will be glad that you did.
Hugs,
Erin
