Do you know what I love about the book of Psalms? David had his highs and lows just like we do. It’s not just chapter after chapter of mountain top experiences. He writes about his valleys also. The Christian life is not perfect, we struggle with things just like anyone else. We have problems and trials, and we can have the mountain top experience where everything is going great, our relationship with God is great, we see Him work, and we put our full trust in Him, we know that He is taking care of us. We all love to be on the mountain top. We don’t want to leave it.
But what happens when we are in the valley? When you are feeling down and everything just hits you all at once, and you wonder how in the world you fell off of that mountain? Do we just roll over and let the sorrow get us? Do we just give up? You better be answering no! We get back up, dust ourselves off, and we start climbing back up the mountain. It may be hard, it may take time, it may hurt. But what happens when we are climbing back up that mountain? We put our trust in God, we learn from our mistakes and hopefully we grow from them. We should always be growing closer to God, not away from Him. Growing can hurt. God can stretch you and you may have to step out of your comfort zone, but it’s worth it! When you get to the top of your mountain, and look back down, you should be able to see where you started and where you ended up. You will be able to see every time you stumbled but pressed through, you should see God working in your life and where you put your trust in Him.
Verse 5 says: “But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. I will sing to the Lord because he has been good to me.”
God’s love is unfailing. It’s unconditional. He will never leave you or forsake you. Even though we don’t deserve it, even though we mess up, He still loves us. He is so good to us! Our hearts should be rejoicing in His salvation. That alone should be enough to give us joy, should make us sing His praises.
I don’t know where you are this morning. Maybe you are on the mountain top, maybe you are in the valley, or maybe you are climbing back up the mountain. Wherever you are, put your trust in His unfailing love!
Hugs,
Erin
