Hello everyone!
I hope you are all having a great week. I can’t believe we are already into September! This year is flying by. But that also means that Fall is right around the corner, which makes me incredibly happy. 🙂
Today we have author Debbi Migit with us to share her favorite writing tips for Wisdom Wednesday. Welcome, Debbi!
Name: Debbi Migit
Genre: YA
Publisher: Scrivenings Press
Latest Novel: September Shadows, book one in the Justice, Montana series.
Writing Tip:
Remember those plastic human body models we had in school? I visualize one of those as I begin my story. I view my first draft as the skeleton. It contains the characters, plot, and the basics needed to hold the story together.
The subsequent drafts (and there are many) are like building the rest of the model-I add the muscles, and organs, filling in more details and descriptions. Next, I add the brain. That’s when I make sure that there are no plot holes.
Finally, I add the heart. I’ve learned that because I am emotionally reserved, I write my characters that way-at first. Then, near the end of the story, when they (and I) feel safe, I go back and add the emotional depth they couldn’t express earlier. That last element is the most satisfying for me.
Writing Tip for New Writers:
Keep learning. Join organizations. Listen to podcasts. Attend writer’s conferences. I write from beginning to end without edits; this saves me from switching back and forth in my brain, which makes me dizzy 😊 When I’m done, I use Grammarly and Pro Writing aid to edit.
After the sudden death of their parents, Jess Thomas, and her sisters, Sly and Maggie, start creating a new life for themselves in Justice, Montana. But when Sly is accused of a crime she didn’t commit, the young sisters are threatened with separation through foster care. Jess is determined to prove Sly’s innocence, even at the cost of her own life.
Cole McBride has been Jess’s best friend since they were children. Now his feelings are deepening, just as Jess takes risks to protect her family. Can Cole convince Jess to trust him−and God−to help her?
