So one of my son’s chores is of course to clean his room. Well the other day, I was busy cleaning the house, and my two-year olds room was a mess. So I asked my son to go get started on his sister’s room. Well he was not happy but finally gave in and went to clean it. I went to join him a little later and saw that he had most of the toys back in the toy box. But he stuffed tons of toys, books, ect on her shelves. They were overflowing. So I instantly got suspicious. I looked under the bed and what did I find? EVERYTHING! He pushed toys, dirty clothes, sippy cups, absolutely everything under her bed! When I asked him why he pushed it all under there he replied, “It’s not my room. I didn’t want to clean it.” Needless to say, I made him clean everything out from the bed, and he helped me put everything away in the correct spots.
Psalm 44:21 says, “Would not God find this out? For He knows the secrets of the heart.”
What do you think about when no one is around? What is your fears? Your hopes? Your dreams? What do you do when you think no one is looking? God can see directly into our hearts. He knows what we think, what we do, what we dream about. We can’t hide anything from Him. So many times we struggle with things and we put on a show to others. Just like how from far away, the room Daniel cleaned looked clean. It looked neat. But when I got up close, I found the hidden things. I found the toys, the clothes, the dirty cups, papers, everything. He thought I wouldn’t be able to see it.
What do you cover up so no one can see? Be honest with yourself. It’s almost easy at first to put on a mask and let everyone see that on the outside everything looks ok. But if they could see in your heart, they would see the mess. Maybe it’s not something that you are currently struggling with, maybe it’s from the past. Broken relationships, hurtful words or actions that have hurt you. But after a while it gets harder to keep holding up that mask.
I’m so glad that God can see into my heart. That he knows what I’m thinking, what I’m feeling. And you know what? He still loves me. And I can go to him and he will take the hurt, the pain, everything and heal them. All I have to do is lay it at His feet and leave it in His hands. I don’t have to carry the past anymore. I don’t have to handle problems and struggles on my own.
What is hidden in your heart? Is there something that you are holding onto? If there is, I want to encourage you today. Give it to God, leave it in His hands, and see what He does with it. He will turn it into something beautiful.
Hugs,
Erin
