In the last couple of posts, we have established that I can be:
- A little stubborn at times. (okay, okay, more than a little stubborn.)
- Sometimes God has to give me a swift kick in the behind.
But today we are going to talk about attitude. Have you ever heard your parents say to you that you need an attitude adjustment? Then you would have some type of smart aleck comment to fling back? Please tell me I’m not alone on that one. It can be so easy to fall into this trap, at least it is for me. I find myself pushing down deep little frustrations. Like the kids being loud and fighting, someone cuts me off when I’m driving, I can’t find my cell phone, when I’m clumsy and can’t seem to hold onto anything. I let things build up until I get so frustrated with everything and everyone that my attitude completely stinks.
So the past couple of days I have been asking God why? Why do I seem to have great days and then blah days were my patience goes to zero. I read our chapter today and right off the bat, verse 1 holds my answer. This chapter is awesome. There are probably 9 verses that I can stop and write about. (which we may spend some time doing.)
But here’s is the first one: “I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.” Here’s the part that made me squirm a little this morning. Is praise coming out of mouth to God at all times? And I had to answer no. Ouch. I told you, God has to kick in my behind sometimes. If during those times of frustrations, if I would take like 2 seconds to stop and praise God about something, I think my attitude would probably be better, and stay that way.
How about you? Do you ever struggle with your attitude? If so, I am challenging you and myself included, that every time our minds go somewhere wrong, to stop and put our minds on God and thank Him for something. There is a movie quote that I love that says, “Your mind is a dangerous place and you don’t want to go there alone.” And that’s so true! I hope you find some encouragement today as I have. How many things can you praise God about today? I’m sure you will find so many that you will not run out. Right now I’m thankful for His attitude adjustments. Even though they can hurt. 😉
Hugs,
Erin
